Enigma / WWII Cipher

Enigma Machine

A real, working simulation of the Enigma cipher machine used by Germany in World War II — genuine rotor wirings, reflector, plugboard, and the actual double-stepping mechanism.

Real Rotor Wirings

Rotors I–V and reflector UKW-B use the actual historical wiring tables from the real Wehrmacht Enigma I machine — not simplified or fictional substitutions.

Real Double-Stepping

The middle rotor's famous "double-step" anomaly — where it advances twice in a row under certain conditions — is faithfully reproduced here, exactly as it happened on the real machine (and was a real weakness Allied cryptanalysts exploited).

Self-Reciprocal Cipher

Enigma's defining property: with identical settings, encrypting the output text again reproduces the original — try it. This same property was also its fatal flaw (a letter could never encrypt to itself).

Nothing Sent Anywhere

All rotor stepping and substitution math runs locally in your browser — no text you type here is transmitted anywhere.
